Professor Takahiro Ito from Kobe University and Yuki Yamaoto from Kanzai University made their initial field visit for potential project.
The project will focus on the consequences of exposure to large-scale shocks - the 2004 Tsunami and the Sri Lankan War.

We are proud to have done pioneering work on random controlled trials in Sri Lanka, working with our remarkable collaborators on projects related to micro enterprises, agriculture, women entrepreneurs, psychology, food and nutrition, and the care economy.

The field staff training was sucessfully completed in 5 days (from 22nd to 26 July) at the Royal Kandyan hotel, with 75 people attending.
Initial field work started from 1st August.
This project is a part of a nine-country international consortium of studies on Care Economies in Context, led by Prof. Ito Peng of the University of Toronto, which aims to understand and address the constraints faced especially by households and communities across the globe in providing childcare, eldercare and care for persons with disability (PWDs).

We were delighted to receive a visit from Ms Tsugumi Toyota, Research Officer from Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka.
She is currently conducting research on the sustainability of the plantation sector and the well-being of its workforce as a part of the embassy's efforts to deepen its understanding of both micro- and macro-level economic conditions in Sri Lanka.
We arranged for Ms Toyota to meet Professor Suresh de Mel, Professor Dileni Gunewardena and Mrs Shobanadevi Rajendran from the Department of Economics & Statistics, University of Peradeniya.

Due to the increasing attention being paid to the need for care on a worldwide scale, a detailed evaluation of its economic significance and contribution to national development is imperative. As a result, pressure will be on legislators to give this problem top priority.
The Social Science Research Council of Canada, the University of Toronto, Verite Research, and Kandy Consulting Group are in the process of conducting a pilot survey to acquire quantitative data.
Currently, Kandy Consulting Group is in partnership with SEO Amsterdam Economics in conducting an extensive impact evaluation exercise for the “Women in Work Sri Lanka” project funded by the Australian Agency for International Development, and implemented by the International Finance Corporation.
Currently we are partnering with the Ministry of Agriculture’s Smallholder Agribusiness Partnerships Programme (SAPP), in uplifting rural farmer communities and supporting rural economic development.
We are collaborating on a project with Kobe University (Japan) and the University of Peradeniya (Sri Lanka) in identifying some of the persistent effects of the Eelam war on present day Sri Lankans.
In addition the study also inquires various impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial crisis currently affecting the country.
