We were delighted to receive a visit from Ms Tsugumi Toyota, Research Officer from Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka.
She is currently conducting research on the sustainability of the plantation sector and the well-being of its workforce as a part of the embassy's efforts to deepen its understanding of both micro- and macro-level economic conditions in Sri Lanka.
We arranged for Ms Toyota to meet Professor Suresh de Mel, Professor Dileni Gunewardena and Mrs Shobanadevi Rajendran from the Department of Economics & Statistics, University of Peradeniya.
We had worked with Ms Toyota previously, when, as a graduate student, she was studying under Professors Yamazaki and Ito on a household survey in Trincomalee in 2018, which made our recent meeting very special.
